1880年代、アルフレッドダンヒルが父の働く、馬具用品の製造卸会社で働き始め若干21歳のとき、ロンドンで父親が営んでいた馬具専門店を受け継ぎ93年に21歳で会社の経営を引き継ぎ、社名を自身の名を冠した「dunhill ダンヒル」に改名し歴史が始まった。ダンヒルの商品の多くは「モートリティーズ」という言葉が1つのキーワードとなります。この言葉は自動車(Motoring)と権威(Authorities)を組み合わせた造語で、創業当時のブティック名も「モートリティーズ」でした。代々、自動車に関連づけたイメージのアクセサリーや小物の商品を展開し、創業から間もない時期はドライバーを中心に多くの支持を集めて成長しました。現在は紳士服を中心にしたメンズスーツ、ネクタイ、カフス、バッグ、ベルト、財布、時計、名刺入れ等も取り扱い、アルフレッドは父親から継承した大切な遺産である馬具専門店の伝統を決して忘れることなく、その技術を活かして現代に息づいています。
