イタリアのDella Valleが、20年代にシューズの製造を始めました。Della Valleの経営するEMA社という社名だったのですが、トッズに社名変更しています。1979年、底に133個のゴム突起を付けた1枚革のモカシンを発表いたしました。これは非常に軽快でフィット感のあるもので、ヨーロッパを中心に支持を集めてこれがブランド「トッズ」としてのスタートとなりました。トッズの靴の特徴は、多くの工程を経て生産されています。多いものでそれは120の工程をおこなっています。品質のチェック、サンプルを実際履いてもらい、それが履き心地の良いものかなど、チェックを繰り返します。トッズグループの成功の要因の一つに、手作りの職人的な手法をキープしつつ、より効率的に生産ラインを組み立てたことが上げられています。
