1873年に靴造りの町として有名なノーザンプトン小さな工房を開いたのが始まりです。現在でも、チャーチはクロムウェルのピューリタン革命時代からの靴造りと密接な関係がある町ノーザンプトンで靴を造り続けています。現在でも昔と変わることなく、1足あたりに8週間の時間をかけ、250におよぶ工程を経て出荷されます。エリザベス2世の訪問を受け、その輸出力に対して女王賞が授与されたことにより、世界ブランドしてのチャーチの地位はより強固なものになりました。また、正統派の英国靴としても不動の地位を確立し、007のジェームズも愛用することで知られています。
