ターンブル&アッサーはレジナルド・ターンブルとアーネスト･アッサーの２人のシャツ職人により創業されました。彼らは1860年頃からシャツ職人としてのキャリアを積み、1885年にパートナーとなった彼らにより会社が設立されました。ターンブル&アッサーは創業して数年後から、上流階級用の狩猟用の手袋、シャツ、靴下などに力を入れ始め、上流人士を対象とした衣装を提供することにより初期の成功をおさめ、1902年にジャーミン・ストリートの協会脇から現在の場所にショップを移しました。1904年にはじめて王室から注文を受けました。それはアレクサンドラ王妃の乗馬用レインコートでした。これを機会にターンブル&アッサーは王室との結びつきを深めていきます。現在では世界中で高い評価を受ける英国を代表するシャツブランドとして知られています。
