1771年に帽子メーカーとして創業し、200年以上にわたって英国王室御用達、陸軍の依頼を受けている老舗ホークスと、1785年創業で海軍のテーラーとして著名なギーブスが1975年に合併し、ホークスが店舗を構えていたロンドン、サヴィル・ローにギーブス・アンド・ホークス社を創立致しました。陸海空軍の制服の製作に加え、パブリックスクールの制服も手掛けることで、英国上流社会に溶け込み、イギリス人に最も愛されるブランドとなりました。前身のギーブスは1926年に既製服を開始し、さらにビスポークと既製服の中間にあたる「パーソナル・テーラリング・システム」も始めました。また、王室との付き合いも古く、19世紀はじめにはホークスはジョージ三世とシャーロット皇后のヴェルベット帽の制作者として御用達を得ています。ジョージ五世の息子エドワード王子とアルバート王子の服装もすべてギーブス製でした。エリザベス2世即位の式典のためのローブやチャールズ皇太子の婚礼祭典の際の制服なども製作し、幅広く信頼得て伝統と歴史をつくり上げてきました。
