スウェイン・アドニー・ブリッグは、1750年にジョン・ロス氏によりイギリスはロンドンのピカデリーにて創業された馬具メーカーが発端と言われています。1780年にはジョージ3世の馬用の鞭に選ばれ、ロイヤルワラント（＝王室御用達）の指定を受けた歴史ある最高級のブランドです。現在ではエリザベス女王、エディンバラ公、チャールズ皇太子の3つのロイヤルワラントを取得しています。（なお、エリザベス女王が馬車で国会議事堂へお出かけになる際の御者の鞭は、今もスウェイン・アドニー・ブリッグ製です） その後の1798年にはジェームズ・スウェイン氏がその事業を買収。さらに第二次世界大戦中に、傘作りで知られていたトーマス・ブリッグ・アンド・サン社を買収し、現在知られているスウェイン・アドニー・ブリッグ社と なったと言われています。このトーマス・ブリッグ・アンド・サン社は1836年に創業され、傘、ステッキ、狩猟用の鞭などを製造していました。傘のメーカーとしては初めて、1893年にロイヤルワラントを 授けられています。ケンブリッジ近郊の自社工場は、英国高級皮革工房の一つと言われ、250年前から変わらぬ道具と製法で、英国産のブライドルレザーを使用した製品を生み出し続けています。
