    Melmin's founder, José Albaladejo Ramis, was born in 1963 on the island of Mallorca in the Balearic Islands, an island in the Mediterranean Sea off the east coast of Spain, into a family that has been making shoes for over 100 years. His father was José Albaladejo Pujadas, the founder of Yanko. The eldest son, José, learned how to make shoes while helping his father with his work from his early teens, and after graduating from school, he began helping his father with his work in earnest. However, due to differences of opinion with the business partner, his father left the company, and José became the CEO after that. However, he had a strong desire to make the ideal shoes that could not be realized by large manufacturers, so in 2002, he founded a small shoe workshop with his younger brother, Alessandro, and several other engineers. That was the beginning of Melmin. When José started making shoes, he was first attracted to the charm of leather. He visited tanneries all over the world and studied all the processes involved in making leather, from raw hides to tanning and dyeing, and even today, his curiosity about leather never ends. In addition, making shoe lasts, which determine the shape of the shoes, is also his life's work, and he carves out the lasts himself. While it is common for Spanish shoemakers to use ready-made lasts, he continues to insist on making his own unique lasts. This insistence and experience eventually evolved into the creation of Melmin shoes.
