MCMは、1976年にドイツのミュンヘンで旅行鞄メーカーとして誕生したブランドです。2005年に、韓国の企業が買収したのをきっかけに韓国国内での人気に火が付きました。K-POPアイドルや、韓流スターがMCMのアイテムを身に着けるようになり、それを見た人たちも同じものを持ちたいと購入することで大人気となりました。設立当初のブランド名は、「Michael Cromer Munich」の略として名付けられていましたが、韓国の企業に買収された際に「Modern Creation Munich」に書き換えられています。
