Atelier TUFFERY is the oldest denim brand in France, with a 129-year history, born in Nims, the birthplace of denim. Its history began in Florac, Nims, and all work, from design to sewing, is still done in its own factory there. Tuffery originally started out by producing clothing for craftsmen building railways in the mountains. This is the birth of French denim, which is derived from the name of the town of Nims, and is made by dyeing 100% cotton with indigo. Julien, the fourth generation head of the family, has breathed new life into this traditional French craft that has been passed down for three generations, further reconstructing the way French makers work, and is enthusiastically working on production as a craft that will be passed down to the present day.
