Jose Albaladejo's family has been a family-run shoe manufacturer in Mallorca, Spain since the 19th century. Until the mid-20th century, they operated the brand Sansons. Jose founded the high-end shoe brand YANKO in 1961, and in the 1980s, they produced 1 million pairs of shoes, exponentially growing the family's shoe manufacturing business. In the 1990s, he wanted to make higher quality shoes, so he decided to start a new brand. In 1998, he founded Carmina.
