    Swaine Adeney Brigg is said to have originated as a harness manufacturer founded in 1750 by John Ross in Piccadilly, London. In 1780, it was chosen to make horse whips for King George III, and is a historic, top-class brand that has been designated as a Royal Warrant (= Royal Warrant holder). Currently, it has three Royal Warrants from Queen Elizabeth, the Duke of Edinburgh, and Prince Charles. (The coachman's whip used by Queen Elizabeth when she travels to the Houses of Parliament in her carriage is still made by Swaine Adeney Brigg.) _x000D_ Later, in 1798, James Swain bought the business. During World War II, the company bought Thomas Brigg & Son, known for making umbrellas, and became the company known today as Swain, Adeney & Brigg. Thomas Brigg & Son was founded in 1836 and manufactured umbrellas, walking sticks, hunting crops, and other items. It was the first umbrella manufacturer to be awarded a Royal Warrant in 1893. Their own factory near Cambridge is said to be one of the UK's finest leather workshops, and they continue to produce products using British bridle leather using the same tools and manufacturing methods as they have for 250 years.
