創業者Mr.John Comfortは1879年に生まれる。1908年、彼はThe Cathedral Knitting Companyをロンドンに設立。ハンドフレームのニットタイの生産を始める。1920年に会社名をJ.Comfort and Company Ltd.に改名し、ニットタイの他に織りとプリントのネクタイ、そしてスカーフやポケットチーフなどが新たに商品ラインアップに加わる。1930年代にはハンドブロックでプリントされたエンシェントマダーやレジメンタルストライプ、さらには、Macclesfield製織物などをクラシックコレクションとして次々に発表していく。
