Steven Alan designs his items by looking at the fabric, and they are comfortable to wear and have beautiful, relaxed silhouettes. The brand's symbol is its popular shirts, which are worn with the top button open to create a nuanced look. In 2008, he was nominated for the CFDA's Best New Menswear Designer in America. In April 2013, he partnered with United Arrows and opened his first Japanese shop in Shibuya, Tokyo. In 2014, he announced "Steven Alan Optical," eyewear inspired by vintage styles.
