ナイジェル・ケーボンは1967年から1971年までイギリスのNORTHUMBRIA UNIVERSITYに在籍し、まだ在学中の最終年に自身のブランドであるCRICKET （のちにNIGEL CABOURNと改名）を立ち上げました。その当時、多くの人々のアドバイスに反して、イギリス北部の拠点から動くことはありませんでしたが、それはその寒くて風の強いイギリス北部の環境は、デザインをする上で大きなインスピレーション源となっていたためです。そして今では数少ないアウターウェアのスペシャリストとして知られるようになったのです。現在のコレクションに関しては、自らのデザインをナイジェル自身がイギリス生産(オーセンティックライン)と日本生産（メインライン）に振り分けている所が非常に特徴的です。前者にはハリスツイードやベンタイル、マッキントッシュクロス、オイルドクロスといった英国由来の素材を中心に使用し、マッキントッシュの工場やスコットランドのニット工場等で生産するアイテムを、そして後者には、日本でしか作れない独特の生地、実現できない染色や加工技術を活用したアイテムをという振り分けをすることで、どこにもない独特のコレクションを生み出しています。
