Founder Mr. John Comfort was born in 1879. In 1908, he established The Cathedral Knitting Company in London. He began producing hand-framed knitted ties. In 1920, the company changed its name to J. Comfort and Company Ltd., and in addition to knitted ties, woven and printed ties, scarves, pocket squares, and other items were added to the product lineup. In the 1930s, the company released a series of classic collections, including hand-block printed ancient madder, regimental stripes, and Macclesfield fabrics.
